What is Ceylon Cinnamon?

Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is derived from the inner bark of the cinnamon tree, native to Sri Lanka’s tropical climate. Unlike Cassia Cinnamon, which is commonly cultivated in China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, Ceylon Cinnamon is lighter in colour, naturally sweeter in taste, and more delicate in aroma, making it the preferred choice for premium culinary and wellness applications.

A key difference lies in its coumarin content. Cassia cinnamon contains significantly higher levels of coumarin, a naturally occurring compound that may be harmful when consumed regularly in large amounts over an extended period. In contrast, Ceylon Cinnamon contains only trace amounts of coumarin, making it a safer choice for regular and daily consumption.

Beyond its superior flavour and aroma, Ceylon Cinnamon is valued for its potential health benefits:

    • Rich in antioxidants that help protect the body from oxidative stress.
    • Supports healthy blood sugar levels when combined with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
    • May promote heart health by supporting healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
    • Contains natural anti-inflammatory properties that may help support overall wellness.
    • Supports digestive health and has been traditionally used to aid digestion.
    • May help strengthen the body's natural immune defenses due to its antimicrobial properties.

Ceylon Cinnamon is a popular ingredient in wellness teas and herbal infusions for its warming and soothing qualities.

Often referred to as the “Queen of Cinnamon,” Ceylon Cinnamon is prized worldwide for its delicate sweetness, refined aroma, exceptional purity, and wellness-supporting properties.
